Assemblyman John Ceretto said he is pleased with the $1.75 million in grant money given by the Western New York Power Proceeds Allocation Board to fund the expansion of the Aquarium of Niagara. This expansion, he said, is critical to creating a world-class tourist attraction in Niagara Falls that can compete with other well-known aquariums. Expanding the Aquarium of Niagara is a part of Ceretto's vision for the economic revitalization of Niagara Falls.

"This $1.75 million in Power Proceeds funding for the Aquarium of Niagara is a cornerstone for the economic revitalization of Niagara Falls. I fought for the Power Proceeds legislation to keep this money local so that economic development projects like this could get the funding they need," Ceretto said. "We are taking important steps to make our vision of Niagara Falls a reality. I envision a Niagara Falls that residents will be proud to call their home, and that tourists will be lining up to come visit. There is more to be done, but we are moving in the right direction."

The Western New York Power Proceeds Allocation Board was established as a result of the Western New York Power Proceeds Allocation Act, which required the New York Power Authority to create the Western New York Economic Development Fund. Ceretto fought for and voted in favor of this legislation because it commits New York Power Authority revenues generated locally to local economic development projects. Ceretto also helped to expand the footprint of the USA Niagara Development Corp. to include the Aquarium of Niagara, which helped make this grant possible.
