On Monday afternoon, Niagara Falls City Councilman Bob Anderson said he would vote in favor of developer Mark Hamister's proposal to build a $25 million hotel in downtown Niagara Falls. The project is now expected to have the necessary number of votes to gain approval.

In response, Congressman Brian Higgins offered the following statement:

"Often in Western New York, the difficulty lies not in getting the big projects finished, but in getting them started. With today's news we welcome a start to a project that will invest over $20 million in the City of Niagara Falls, create jobs and enhance the tourism experience for those who visit.

"I've said all along that the Hamister Group project is a serious proposal from a serious developer that deserves serious consideration, and I'm pleased that this announcement means that construction will soon be underway in Niagara Falls.

"While there is no silver bullet, we certainly know that investment can breed more investment, and this project, combined with others, will help ongoing efforts to revitalize Niagara Falls into the true destination it can and should be."
