From Oct. 3-7, Niagara University Theatre will present "The Secret Life of Girls" by Linda Daugherty and directed by adjunct professor Amanda Lytle Sharpe. Steven Braddock, director of Niagara University Theatre, is associate director of the production. This frank, unflinching, timely play spotlights the devastation caused by bullying in the form of gossiping, using friendship as a weapon, name-calling, exclusion, spreading rumors, forming cliques and manipulation.

Based upon interviews with girls on the giving and receiving end, the play highlights the impact of "cyberbullying," and is by turns both humorous and heartbreaking. A penetrating look into teenage angst, this family event offers the opportunity for insightful dialogue following each and every performance.

"The Secret Life of Girls" will be on stage in the Leary Theatre within the Elizabeth Ann Clune Center for Theatre, Clet Hall, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, and Monday, Oct. 7, and at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, and Saturday, Oct. 5, with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday, Oct. 5, and Sunday, Oct. 6.

Cast members include the following theater performance majors: Amy Mings of Buffalo (Abby); Kaylee LeRoy of Solvay (Stephanie); Brittany Shannon of Watertown (Rebecca); Elena Feliz of Tonawanda (Kayla); Anna Krempholtz of East Aurora (Sutton); Josephine Lazusky of Cochranton, Pa. (Anna Marie); Kendyl Litwiller of Naples, N.Y. (Chandler); Leacel Hillenbrand of Oneida (Sutton's Mom); Karen Harty of Williamsville (Abby's Mom); and Stephanie Wattie of Derby (Coach). In addition, several other theater performance majors will play key roles in the production. Alissa Sumerano of Hurley is set designer. Fabio Del Carlo of Harrison, N.J., is stage manager, and Jean O'Harrow of Newfane is assistant stage manager.

Costumes are by associate professor/costume designer Maureen Stevens, while lighting design is by assistant professor/scenic designer/production manager David Dwyer, and sound coordination is by adjunct sound faculty member Glenn Bernardis.
