Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, will mark the 12th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. The people of the U.S. are asked to solemnly observe Patriot Day and to remember the civilians and military personnel who lost their lives in the attacks.
In observance of Patriot Day, U.S. flags should be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset. Some Americans prefer to gather around the flag at 8:46 a.m. Eastern Standard Time - the time of the first plane crash - for a moment of silent remembrance.
