The Center for the Arts, University at Buffalo, presents Herbie Hancock on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre. Tickets are $27.50 to $77.50. The concert is sponsored in part by Fox Run Orchard Park.

Hancock is considered an icon of modern music. Throughout his explorations, he has transcended limitations and genres while maintaining an unmistakable musical voice. With a career spanning five decades and 14 Grammy Awards, Hancock continues to amaze global audiences.

With a body of work ranging from groundbreaking work with the Miles Davis Quintet, jazz-fusion, to his long career as an acclaimed solo artist, few in the music industry have had more influence on acoustic and electronic jazz and R&B. As Miles Davis said in his autobiography, "Herbie was the step after Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk, and I haven't heard anybody yet who has come after him."

Now in the fifth decade of his professional life, Hancock remains where he has always been: in the forefront of world culture, technology, business and music.

Herbie's quartet for this concert will include: Vinnie Colaiuta (drums), James Genus (bass) and Lionel Loueke (guitar).
