The Lewiston-Porter Athletic Department has announced it is honoring Ann and Daryl Johnston with its Niagara Frontier League Cornerstone Award. The two have been recognized for their tireless commitment to the entire Lewiston-Porter athletic program.

As a result of Ann's efforts to secure private donations and Daryl working through the NFL, Lew-Port was able to outfit its varsity and JV football program with new, state-of-the-art helmets.

"With the recent focus on the lifetime effects of concussions and the new technology to help prevent them, Ann and Daryl realized that something needed to be done to protect the student athletes at Lewiston-Porter," said Scott Townsend, Lewiston-Porter director of athletics. "Through their efforts, they were able to spearhead a fundraising effort that accumulated well over $40,000, and allowed the football program to not only outfit every player with the newest and most effective helmets on the market, but (we) were also able to purchase new shoulder pads and home jerseys."

Townsend noted that Daryl, along with some other retired NFL players, was able secure grants from the league, which helped Lew-Port reach its goal.

"With these difficult budget times, efforts like these are vitally important to the survival of our athletic programs," Townsend said. "Ann is constantly willing to help the athletic program in any way she can and is one of the community's most outstanding advocates for our athletic program. Their efforts will aid our athletes for years to come.

"Lewiston-Porter is extremely thankful to Ann and Daryl for everything they have done for Lew-Port and our athletic program."
