Niagara Jet Adventures of Youngstown, a new jetboat operation expected to debut this fall in the lower river region, announced the winner of its "Name our Fleet Member" contest. The contest, facilitated by Sparkle! Marketing & Events, invited children between the ages of 2-12 from the Lewiston, Porter and Youngstown areas to submit boat names for NJA's first fleet vessel which will be arriving in September.
The "Name our Fleet Member" contest began in July with the goal of getting the community excited and involved in the unveiling of the new attraction. During its three-week run, nearly 30 children from the Lewiston, Youngstown, Ransomville and Sanborn areas submitted creative and fun names for consideration. The winners were chosen from by a panel of judges for their creativity and meaning.
"We are thrilled with the outcome," said owner Mike Fox. "Niagara Jet Adventures is excited to be a part of this community, and to have our first boat named by a child within our community is an honor. The number of entrants and the creativity far exceeded our expectations."
Alysyn Colangelo of Youngstown was selected as the winner for her submitted entry "Gonago:go:h." The name is Seneca, meaning "In the Rapids."
Colangelo's winning entry will be celebrated by NJA at its upcoming Opportunity "Boat Christening" event, which will take place Oct. 5. She will receive an Apple 16GB iPod Touch as her prize.
Honorable mentions went to Robert Dikcis, of Wheatfield for "The Freedom," and to Brandon and Johnny Kankolenski of Lewiston for "The Crawdaddy."
The Colangelo family, along with the Dikcis and Kankolenski families will each receive passes for a future trip on Niagara Jet Adventures.
