Bob Cliffe has announced he is running for another term as supervisor in the Town of Wheatfield.

A small business manager for 40 years, Cliffe is a former town justice, vice president of the Wheatfield Lions Club, as well as past member of the Niagara-Wheatfield Board of Education, treasurer of the Wheatfield Blades and manager of the N-W High School hockey program.

Cliffe is the only endorsed candidate on the Republican line for Wheatfield supervisor, running in a primary on Sept. 10.

"Four years ago, I was elected to return the town's financial condition to good health. I am very proud to say that we have done so," Cliffe said. "I inherited deficits exceeding $663,000, and now have fund balances over $2.2 million."

The town's independent auditor stated this week that "Town finances are right where they should be."

"In every budget I passed, we have reduced your town taxes. Check your own town tax bills over the past five years. Take away the county items, add up the three or four town items and you will see that the trend is down for each of the budgets I've produced. Yet we have still maintained all vital services," Cliffe said.

Cliffe noted that the town has made major upgrades with youth programs, done major improvements with drainage concerns and has started working on new projects, such as the Town Center, improvements at Fairmount and Mario parks and the Greenway Trail.

"With West Nile virus now at our doorstep, but we all know that spraying from the sky is an ineffective and expensive method of mosquito control," Cliffe said. "I am asking for Niagara County to partner with the towns and cities to offer a complete mosquito control program. We cannot do it alone, but working with the county and other towns, we may be able to get some excellent results."

"Responsible, responsive leadership is my focus as we move forward together," he said. "I thank you for your continued trust."
