The children are the future, and the residents of Amberleigh Retirement Community located at 2330 Maple Road in Williamsville want to ensure it's going to be a bright one for them this upcoming school year.

Amberleigh is asking the community at large to donate brand new school supplies of all kinds to less-fortunate children in Western New York.

"Our goal is to fill the Amberleigh bus with brand new school supplies and deliver them to The Teacher's Desk located at 22 Northampton St., in Buffalo, at the end of our school supply drive," said Margaret Kleinmann, executive director of Amberleigh Retirement Community. "The Teacher's Desk was selected as the recipient of this school supply drive because it is the perfect outlet to ensure that the school supplies we collect will get into the right hands to help those in most need."

The Teachers Desk was founded in 2011 by John Mika. Since its opening, The Teacher's Desk has distributed almost $2 million in free school supplies to 4,000 teachers and 25,000 students in need throughout Western New York. Its vision is to encourage teachers and give students in need hope for the future.

Each month, the residents of Amberleigh Retirement Community select a philanthropic organization or cause to donate their time and efforts toward, as the residents take great pride in being able to give back to their community. One hundred percent of all donations received will be going into the hands of students in need.

Join the residents and staff at Amberleigh Retirement Community help children by helping them "pack their Amberleigh bus" with new school supplies Aug. 1-16.

All donations can be dropped off at the reception desk at the front entrance of Amberleigh Retirement Community. Amberleigh staff will then drive their bus full of the donated supplies to The Teacher's Desk in time for the upcoming school year.
