Annual "Duck Race" benefits the hungry and homeless of Niagara County
Community Missions of Niagara Frontier will hold its annual "Duck Race" at Canal Fest of the Tonawandas on Saturday, July 20, at 3 p.m. The race will take place in the Erie Canal between Tonawanda and North Tonawanda. An estimated 200,000 spectators are expected over the weeklong festival, from Sunday, July 14-21.
This year, 2,400 plastic ducks are up for adoption. Those entering the race can win prizes. Ducks can be purchased for $5 a duck, six for $25, 13 for $50, or 30 for $100. They are available online atwww.communitymissions.org or at the Community Missions tent during the weeklong Canal Fest.
Prizes include an iPad Mini 32 GB, $150 to Tops Markets, bagels and cream cheese for a year from Panera Bread, a wine membership at A Gust of Sun Winery, and many runner-up prizes, including a variety of gift certificates and tickets to area venues donated by local businesses.
All event proceeds will benefit Community Missions' crisis services programs, which include the community kitchen, homeless shelter, Mark's Place (HIV/AIDS residence), clothing closet and food pantry. This signature event will assist in continuing to provide food and shelter to the neediest neighbors of Niagara County.
