For 30 years, the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum has been serving the Western New York community. Many museum visitors find the story of the museum's growth as fascinating as that of the Herschell companies themselves.

Join in for a special anniversary edition of the free "Carrousel Chat" adult lecture series on Wednesday, July 24, at 7 p.m. to celebrate three decades of preservation, education and recreation. Museum Director Rae Proefrock will share stories and memories of the museum's evolution- from an idea in a newspaper ad to a focal point for cultural tourism in the Tonawandas. Discover how far the museum has come, thanks to the tireless efforts of community members, and what is planned for its future. Most importantly, find out what you can do to help the museum continue to grow and prosper for another 30 years.

Proefrock is a retired elementary educator with a long history of interest and involvement in museum operations. Proefrock is a founding trustee of the museum, and has served as director since 2009 as a leader in preservation efforts for much of North Tonawanda in addition to the preservation of the Allan Herschell factory complex.

Housed in the historic Allan Herschell Company factory building, the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum interprets the production of carrousels, band organs and a variety of other amusement rides produced in North Tonawanda during the late 19th through mid-20th centuries. Through exhibits, hands-on activities and crafts, and a year-long program of educational events, the museum provides unique opportunities for families to learn and play together.

The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is located at 180 Thompson St. For directions and further information about special events, programs or group tours, visit www.carrouselmuseum.org, call 716-693-1885 or email [email protected].
