Niagara University establishes Office of International Relations

Dr. Hung Le hired as vice president for international affairs

The Niagara University Board of Trustees recently approved the creation of an Office of International Relations, which will provide a central point of contact for international students studying at NU and domestic students seeking global experiences.

The board also approved the appointment of Dr. Hung Le to the position of vice president for international affairs.

Both appointments are effective July 15.

The mission of the Office of International Relations will be to engage the world with Niagara University's rich heritage, centered on the philosophical, moral and practical implications of the dignity of the individual, as well as promoting social justice through education and services. It will oversee the university's study abroad program.

Working in concert with the administrative council, admissions, financial aid, student records, academic affairs, student affairs and others on campus, the new office will establish policies, strategies and support to ensure successful growth in international enrollments at NU, as well as a richer array of international opportunities for domestic students and faculty.

Le will work with faculty and administrators to coordinate Niagara's wide range of global partnerships and programs. He will serve as a senior liaison tasked with enhancing the global perspective of the NU community and international student recruitment, as well as establishing international partnerships and hosting international visitors on campus.

Le comes to NU from Hanoi, Vietnam, where he has been partner and general managerof L&L Consulting Ltd., which provides consulting services to international companies in several industries, including education and hospitality management.

He has also served as president and CEO of The Olympia Schools, (Hanoi, grades 1-12), a bilingual, private school for which he developed an American curriculum applicable to Vietnam's educational standards.

From 2002-07, Le served as assistant dean of the graduate division of arts and sciences at St. John's College - St. John's University, where he assisted and managed 13 graduate programs within the College of Arts and Sciences, including doctoral and master's programs. During that time, he also served as the director of Vietnam initiatives for St. John's, developed a bilateral relationship between St. John's University and the Hanoi University of Education, and instituted a master's degree program in school psychology at HNUE in 2007.

Le has won a number of awards and was the youngest recipient of the Vinh Danh Nuoc Viet Award (Vietnam National Award), which is presented to Vietnamese overseas who have made major contributions to the development of Vietnam.

He holds a doctor of arts in modern world history from St. John's University (2005), a master of arts in East Asian studies, also from St. John's University (2005), a master of arts in developmental psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University (1995), and a bachelor of arts in psychology from St. John's University (1993).
