The New York State Restaurant Association announced today that New York is second only to California among the 50 states in projected restaurant industry job creation this summer. Projections are based upon a recent study by the National Restaurant Association.

Following California, New York state is projected to create 40,700 eating and drinking jobs this summer - a 7.2 percent increase from the March 2013 employment level of 564,600 in New York state.

"Heading into the summer season, people begin to dine out more, and restaurants are preparing by hiring more personnel to support them," said Rick Sampson, president and CEO of the New York State Restaurant Association. "We are very excited about the very positive economic effect this trend will have within our industry and on the Empire State's economic rebound."

The National Restaurant Association announced the national projection as a 4.5 percent increase from the March 2013 employment level of 10,039,800 and an overall increase from the summer of 2012. The U.S. is projected to create 448,000 jobs in the restaurant industry this upcoming summer season.
