Erie Community College will host more than 350 students and teachers from Western New York middle and high schools to participate in its 2013 Tech Wars competition, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, in buildings 5 and 6 at the college's South Campus at 4041 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park.
At Tech Wars, students will compete throughout the day in more than 15 different events, including Habitat for Humanity home design and modeling; bridge design and testing; robotic soccer; catapult challenges; T-shirt logo design; mousetrap-powered cars; and electric cars. The day's largest event, the robotic cage match, will feature radio-controlled 40-pound fighting robots in a battle royale spectacular. Two machines will enter, one will be victorious - but all will be entertained.
Representatives from Dream It, Do It and other local businesses will also participate in the day's activities. Tech Wars is sponsored by the Western New York Technology Education Association, the Western New York Career Pathways Consortium and the ECC South Campus Technologies programs.
