Cornerstone Community Federal Credit Union, headquartered in Lockport, has announced its award of scholarships to 10 high school student members of the credit union in the amount of $350 each.

The Credit Union Scholarship Program, organized through the Credit Union Association of New York, awards scholarships based on individual student grades, participation in extracurricular activities, test scores and an essay submission.

"We had exceptionally talented applicants this year and are very pleased to award these scholarships to our hard-working young members," said Suzanne English of Cornerstone CFCU. "We are proud to announce that, along with the awards handed out today, three of the students placed in the top 5 applicants for the Niagara Chapter."

Cornerstone CFCU's 2013 scholarship recipients are: Allison Adair of Lockport, Kaitlyn Chapman of Wilson, Brittany Cummings of Gasport, Stephanie F. DiCarlo of Lockport, Meghan Menz of Lyndonville, Edmund Pfeil of Lockport, Hailey Stapleton of Lockport, Sarah Thompson of Lockport, Lauren Wager of Lockport, and Jamie Woodley of Niagara Falls.

More than 1,500 students statewide applied for CUANY scholarships, and two of the top applicants were from Cornerstone. Wager was awarded an additional $1,000 and Menz was awarded an additional $500 as state level winners, while Pfeil was awarded an additional $500 from the Niagara Chapter of Credit Unions.

Established in 1957 as Unit No. 1 Federal Credit Union, Cornerstone CFCU is a community chartered, federally insured credit union. Cornerstone has grown to become the largest credit unions based in Western New York with more than 46,000 members and assets in excess of $335 million.
