Police agencies from Western New York and Southern Ontario will honor the memories of law enforcement personnel who gave their lives in the line of duty during the 16th annual Niagara County Police Appreciation Day Interfaith Memorial Service on Thursday, May 16. The service will begin at 7 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 400 Ridge St., Lewiston.

The guest speaker for this year's service will be Niagara Falls Police Superintendent Bryan DalPorto. The host pastor will be the Rev. James Massie.

Superintendent DalPorto is a 15-year veteran of the Niagara Falls Police Department whose work has included service as a patrol officer and supervisor, Roving Anti-Crime Unit officer and narcotics detective. He also has received numerous military awards for his service with the 107th Airlift Wing of the Air National Guard, including honors for his service in the Iraq War, and is the commander of the 107th's Force Support Squadron.

Held during National Police Week, a time to pay special recognition to law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others, the Niagara County service will feature the reading of the Roll of Honor - the roster of officers killed in the line of duty through the years - and a presentation of memorial wreaths by representatives from law enforcement agencies. Agency honor guard members will join area musicians in rendering a rifle salute and "Taps" to the memories of those honored.

A reception sponsored by St. Paul's Church and the Niagara Falls Block Club Council will be held in the church hall immediately following the service.
