Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center will hold "Time Lost is Brain Lost - Preventing and Treating Stroke," its fourth annual National Stroke Awareness Month health fair, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the John Duke Senior Center, 1201 Hyde Park Blvd.
A free event featuring health screenings, displays, door prizes, demonstrations and refreshments, this year's event will present three speakers:
•At 11 a.m., Memorial Stroke Center Medical Director Nyathappa Anand, M.D., will speak on the topic "Time is Brain: Prevention and Treatment of Stroke."
•At 11:30 a.m., Stroke Center Clinical Coordinator Alicia Scott, N.P., will discuss "Hypertension and the Risk of Stroke."
•At noon, Nurse Practitioner Kathleen Ventry, N.P., will present "The Link Between Diabetes and Stroke."
A special feature will be complementary pharmaceutical safety reviews courtesy of Pine Pharmacy. Attendees should bring their prescription and over-the-counter medicines in their original containers for a pharmacist review to identify compliance problems, spot duplicate or outdated medicines, identify potential adverse drug interactions and answer questions.
Also joining Memorial Medical Center staff members will be representatives from Rural/Metro Medical Services, Venture Forthe Inc., and speech and language pathologist Lindy Raymond, M.S., C.C.C.I.S.L.P.
