Animal advocates join ASPCA to lobby New York lawmakers in support of animal welfare bills

Advocates focus lobbying efforts on strengthening cruelty penalties, puppy mill legislation

WHAT: Citizens participating in New York Voices for Animals Day will meet with lawmakers to advocate for several bills to improve the welfare of animals in the state. Participants will lobby on behalf of bills to combat puppy mills, strengthen cruelty penalties, stop breed-specific insurance policy discrimination, and promote dog control officer training programs.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will also present the 2013 Humane Leadership Awards to recognize legislators for their work on behalf of animals.

New York Voices for Animals Day is sponsored by the ASPCA, the New York State Animal Protection Federation, and the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
