This year marks the 21st anniversary of the nation's largest one-day food drive to benefit those in need - The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, conducted by the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Many people in our county are experiencing food insecurity during these difficult economic times. If each household donates one or two bags of non-perishable food, the accumulated amount will enable local pantries to help many families in need. Last year, this event resulted in more than 9,000 pounds of non-perishable food for those served by Heart, Love & Soul alone.

As this remarkable drive gears-up for Saturday, May 11, it raises to the forefront the amazing generosity of the letter carriers and our Niagara County community. Working in collaboration with the United Way of Greater Niagara, the AFL-CIO, the U.S. Postal Service, and many area volunteers, the letter carriers will collect and distribute needed food items to area pantries. And, just so you know, all food collected in Niagara County stays in Niagara County.

So, please place your bags of food on the porch for the letter carriers - they are more than up to the challenge and are to be commended for their spirit of service in "doubling" their workload on May 11. Because of you and the letter carriers, hungry families in Niagara Falls will receive needed food. Thank you!
