The Father's Day Classic Car Show and Lawn Mower Race, benefiting the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Grand Island, will be held again this year on West River Parkway at Long Road, Sunday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The show and race will feature music, food, a 50/50 raffle and the traditional lawn mower races. An addition to this year's event is a 5K walk/run, "The Kevin Doring Walk," in memory of event organizer Floyd Doring's son, Kevin, who recently passed away from cancer.
Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 10 classic cars entered in the show, as well as Top 20 awards and goody bags to the first 50 cars. Lawn mowers of various sizes, vintages and rpms will compete for first place in various categories.
The Lawn Mower Race planning committee has been meeting to finish plans for the big day. Follow their progress in the Island Dispatch and on www.wnypapers.com. Also look for updates on www.relayforlife.org. Race applications will soon be available, and sponsorships are available.
