The Wheatfield Business Association recently inducted its 2013 officers and board members, plus announced this year's scholarship program.

Wheatfield Supervisor Bob Cliffe swore in the following: Sharon DiPasquale as president, Jim Candella as vice president, Rob Allen as treasurer, Danny Maerten as secretary, Jennifer Deitzer as membership chairperson and Gilles Dube as a two-year term board member. Board member Bill O'Farrell was not in attendance, but was sworn in at a later meeting.

Afterward, Cliffe gave a brief update on the Town of Wheatfield, its financial status, the development of a town center, and generously answered questions and concerns.

The businesses of Frank Cornell Associates and John and Lonnie's Pizza and More were recognized at the February meeting as the newest members of the WBA.

A letter, signed by those in attendance, was sent to the state Department of Transportation regarding the WBA's concern with the deletion/postponement of the Niagara Falls Boulevard reconstruction in Wheatfield. It noted that, with no fifth, center turning lane the probability and reality of rear-end collisions is a great concern to Wheatfield businesses and their clientele. Both making a left hand turn and re-entering Niagara Falls Boulevard presents a dangerous situation. WBA members also believe this danger not only inhibits potential clients from utilizing its businesses, but has deterred new business from establishing themselves along this main thoroughfare.

Applications to join the WBA are obtainable at www.wheatfieldbusiness.org or contact any member.

Scholarship Chairman Maerten announced the Wheatfield Business Association's 2013 scholarship applications are available at area high school guidance departments, on the WBA website, http://www.wheatfieldbusiness.org, or by calling 716-731-3696. The annual scholarship award will be given to graduating seniors who reside in the Town of Wheatfield. All applications must be received by May 3. The WBA proudly supports the youth of the Town of Wheatfield.
