Haley Maier, a 10-year-old Barker student, put her creative talents to good use recently by crocheting necklaces out of brightly colored ribbon yarn, which she then sold to her classmates, teachers and faculty at Barker Central School. All proceeds from those sales went to the Alzheimer's Association, WNY Chapter, in memory of her beloved grandmother, who died with Alzheimer's disease.
"We are so impressed by Haley!" said Chapter Assistant Development Director Phil Weiss. "She took the initiative to raise money for our chapter in a very creative way, and we're grateful her gift will allow us to continue to help those impacted by this devastating disease across Niagara County and our entire service region."
Haley says she also plans to take part in the chapter's annual Walk to End Alzheimer's. There are fall walks planned in Lewiston, Medina, Buffalo, Batavia, Chautauqua and Warsaw, with registration now open at: http://www.alz.org/wny. More info is also available by calling 1-800-272-3900.
