Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-C-Lewiston, sent a letter Friday to Gov. Andrew Cuomo asking him to use the lion's share of the $50 million "Open for Business" fund to promote tourism and businesses in Niagara and Erie counties. Ceretto is also asking for $20 million from the venture capital fund to be put toward the redesign of the Robert Moses Parkway in order to open up the waterfront for commercial development. This money is a part of a $70 million economic development sweep in the state budget from the New York Power Authority.

"Albany has long used NYPA as an ATM for funding projects across the state. Since 2002, $1.4 billion has been swept from NYPA and taken away from the Western New York economy," Ceretto said. "Some of this money needs to be invested back into Western New York. An investment in Niagara and Erie counties from the 'Open for Business' fund would help the families and communities of our region."

Ceretto has long been calling for the redesign of the Robert Moses Parkway in order to open up the commercial development of the waterfront. He has given his support to the "Alternative 3" redesign plan and is now asking for $20 million from the venture capital fund created by the NYPA sweep to be put toward a project that has great potential for Niagara Falls.

"Securing funding to redesign the Robert Moses Parkway is essential to developing the waterfront and unlocking the economic potential of Niagara Falls. The waterfront, with a proper investment, could become a great tourist attraction that generates jobs for our region," Ceretto said. "I will continue to fight to bring jobs and economic prosperity for all Western New York families."
