Assemblyman John Ceretto stood with his colleagues from both sides of the aisle in an effort to restore a $90 million cut in funding to non-profit providers who care for the developmentally disabled. The budget amendment was defeated by the Assembly Majority.

"Today, I voted in favor of a budget amendment to restore $90 million in funding for programs that help care for the developmentally disabled. The debate was an emotional one that hit close to home for me," Ceretto said. "I will continue to advocate for this funding to be restored, so we can treat our most vulnerable members of society with the dignity and care they deserve."

In his floor speech, Ceretto talked about his own experience with developmental disabilities. His daughter was born with speech and hearing problems, and was a beneficiary of the very services being cut in this budget. Ceretto, in his impassioned remarks, asked his colleagues to vote in favor of the amendment and help the residents of New York who need it the most.

"Last month, I delivered letters from my constituents to the governor's office asking for these unconscionable cuts to be restored. Today, I urge my colleagues to restore $90 million in funding for programs that help care for the developmentally disabled. I will not stop advocating for this funding until the needs of the most vulnerable members of society are met," Ceretto concluded.
