Give For Greatness, a new force in philanthropy for arts and cultural organizations in Western New York, has released its first round of applications for 2013 beneficiary status and funding. Beneficiaries will have the opportunity to participate in Give For Greatness' annual series of fundraising events and receive additional publicity, a chance to reach new patrons, and operating funds.

Over the past two years, Give For Greatness has raised and awarded nearly $150,000 to local not-for-profit groups. Give For Greatness is dedicated to raising operating funds for small and mid-sized arts organizations to harness creative potential for the common good. Its mission complements the capacity building, collaboration and advocacy provided by Arts Services Initiative of Western New York and the Greater Buffalo Cultural Alliance. Past funds raised through Give For Greatness have been used to supplement staff salaries, fund new programs and special events, and much more.

A representative of the Western New York Book Arts Collaborative, a past Give For Greatness beneficiary, described the support, "G4G funds are particularly valuable because they're unrestricted dollars that can be applied to general operations, allowing us to support and expand our exhibitions and programs without reinventing the wheel in the process."

The 2013 application process consists of a narrative application, participation requirement and the completion of a cultural data project profile. Applicant organizations must also have 501(c3) tax-exempt status.

In 2012, Give for Greatness partnered with the New York State Cultural Data Project, a statewide, collaborative effort of public and private funders throughout New York and the first management tool of its kind. Give For Greatness, along with other funders in New York, now require applicants to complete a data profile annually through the New York State CDP website (www.nysculturaldata.org).

Assistance with the cultural data project profile is available to all organizations. There will be a workshop for users of the CDP on March 19 and 20. For more information or to reserve a spot at the training, visit the CDP website at http://www.nysculturaldata.org/news.aspx.
