Chart-topping '60s band The Grass Roots will be one of the highlights Saturday, March 9, of the Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center's Black Tie-Dye Gala Dinner & Auction. The concert is part of the Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center Foundation's '60s-themed event at the Seneca Niagara Casino Events Center. The annual gala raises money to support the programs of Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center.

The evening starts at 6 p.m. The band is expected to take the stage around 9:30 p.m. to play an extended set of hit songs.

Lou Billittier of Chef's Restaurant is chairman of this year's gala committee.

"This is a special year for the gala as Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center celebrates 60 years," he said. "Having the original band here makes this a truly special evening for everyone at the gala and at Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center."

In their career, the Grass Roots achieved two gold albums, one gold single and charted singles a total of 21 times. Their 1968 single "Midnight Confessions" is their biggest hit. The group has sold more than 20 million records worldwide.

In addition to the concert, the event will feature a silent and live auction. Featured items for the auction include six Buffalo Sabres hockey jerseys from the 1999 Stanley Cup finals; two tickets to the first two games of the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals, with private airfare and hotel included; tickets to the Rose Bowl Parade and two tickets to the Rose Bowl; three nights accommodations in the private penthouse atop the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas; along with many other great items. Auctioneers for the evening are Buffalo Sabres alum and sportscaster Danny Gare, and vice president of programming for WBBZ-TV, John DiSciullo.

The gala would not be possible without the support of the presenting sponsors: Counsel Financial, Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel and Hale Northeastern. Additional event sponsors include Accessium Group Inc., Chef's Restaurant, DreamCatcher Foundation, Elite Hearing Network, Lawley Insurance, L&M LLC, KeyBank, AAA of Western & Central New York, Eastman Foundation, First Niagara Bank Corp., Goldstein, Ackerhalt & Pletcher LLC, Independent Health, Time Warner Cable, UB:MD - Internal Medicine and WBBZ-TV

All proceeds from this year's event will benefit the Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center, a not-for-profit organization with comprehensive diagnostic and treatment for children and adults with speech-language and hearing problems. The center employs more than 300 people, including full- and part-time licensed speech-language pathologists, audiologists, occupational and physical therapists, teachers and teacher aides.
