Town of Niagara Police Blotter for March 7, 2013

The following is a sampling of calls received by the Town of Niagara Police between Feb. 25 and March 3. During that time period, patrols answered 160 calls.

Monday, Feb. 25

•North Whitham Drive at Military Road, traffic tickets. Tickets issued to driver who attempted to elude police after being seen in the area of his ex-girlfriend's house on Lawson Drive.

•Tuscarora Road and Effie Drive, traffic ticket. Driver ticketed for going through a stop sign/flashing red light making no attempt to stop.

•Tuscarora Road at Blank Road, suspicious person. Patrol dispatched on a report of a male who lunged at a passing vehicle, almost striking it. Negative results.

•2400 block of Military Road, larceny. Complainant reported that someone stole his iPhone 5 from his gym bag that was on the floor of the basketball court.

Tuesday, Feb. 26

•2600 block of Lockport Road, traffic ticket. Patrol observed a driver travel head-on into oncoming traffic. Driver, who was verbally abusive and uncooperative, was drinking from a large silver coffee cup and distracted at the time of the incident.

•2400 block of Military Road, accident. Vehicle was driven into a business. No injuries reported.

•Miller and Saunders Settlement Road, aid assist. Patrol assisted Lewiston Police with a one-car rollover accident.

Wednesday, Feb. 27

•8000 block of Quarry Road, larceny. Business reported someone stole five batteries to various pieces of machinery in the rear of the property. Value of the batteries was listed at $1,050.

•8900 block of Porter Road, injury accident. Driver reported that a vehicle pulled out of a parking lot into his path. Other driver was incoherent and not aware of where she was coming from or where she was going. Niagara Active Hose Volunteer Fire Co. and Rural Metro Ambulance were on the scene.

•Packard and Haseley roads, suspicious person. Patrol received a call of a man who appeared to be in distress walking down Packard Road. The man, who was wearing only a thin pair of hospital pants and a sweater, said he was trying to get to the bus terminal to go to Buffalo. Due to inclement weather, patrol transported the man to the terminal.

Thursday, Feb. 28

•1900 block of Military Road, shoplifting. An 18-year-old Buffalo woman was arrested after she reportedly entered a store, selected two pairs of earrings, two bracelets and two necklaces, put them in her pocket and left.

•5500 block of Porter Road, drug charge. State Police called patrol for assistance after stopping a vehicle and with two males recognizable from past police contact. A substance believed to be marijuana was found in the glove box. The 30-year-old Sixth Street man and 19-year-old McKenna Avenue man were ticketed for unlawful possession of marijuana.

Friday, March 1

•7100 block of Lockport Road, assist citizen. Patrol installed two child safety seats.

•Porter Road, injury accident. Driver reported she was stopped in traffic waiting to make a left turn into a store parking lot when she was struck from behind by another vehicle. She was taken to Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center for evaluation of neck, chest and back pain. Other driver, whose vehicle had heavy front-end damage, was cited for following too closely.

Saturday, March 2

•200 block of Juanita Drive, fire. Patrol and Niagara Active Hose Volunteer Fire Co. responded to a dryer fire. Resident extinguished the minor fire herself. Fire department personnel moved the dryer outside.

•8500 block of Porter Road, EMS. Patrol assisted Rural Metro Ambulance with a 42-year-old male who fell on ice and was having difficulty breathing.

Sunday, March 3

•5500 block of Porter Road, driving while intoxicated. Patrol was notified of a possible DWI driver heading into the Town of Niagara. Patrol encountered the vehicle, driving in the wrong lane, at the apex of the hill and had to veer to the right to avoid a collision. The driver, a Whitney Avenue woman, continued in wrong lane, but slowed to about 25 mph, before finally stopping.

•Military Road, traffic ticket. Patrol observed driver heading northbound at speeds of 60 to 65 mph in a posted 30 mph zone. Driver said he was speeding because he had to pick his cousin up at his house.
