Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for March 1, 2013

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 158 calls from Feb. 16 to Feb. 22. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to eight burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Feb. 16

•Grand Island Boulevard, unlawful possession of marijuana - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested two 20-year-old men, both of Grand Island, for unlawful possession of marijuana (a violation). Both subjects were issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Center Court South, fraud - A complainant stated that someone made a fraudulent purchase with her credit card. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Baseline Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle pulled out of a tavern and was driving recklessly down the road. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Sunday, Feb. 17

•Beaver Island State Parkway, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Staley Road, hit-and-run accident - A complainant stated that a vehicle hit a telephone pole and then became stuck in the ditch. Deputies were tied up on a priority call, and when they got to the scene the vehicle was gone.

•Stony Point Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in the fire station parking lot during the late hours of the night. The vehicle left prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Love Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone slashed the tires on his vehicle.

Monday, Feb. 18

•Love Road, suspicious vehicle - Employees at a convenience store stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in the lot and appeared to be occupied. Deputies located the vehicle and identified several subjects inside. Deputies investigation led to the arrest of a 19-year-old from Grand Island for unlawful possession of alcohol by persons under 21, disorderly conduct (a violation), obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree (a class A misdemeanor) and resisting arrest (a class A misdemeanor). The subject was transported to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $500 bail.

•Love Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a subject stated he was walking around looking for a school for several hours and appeared confused. Deputies located the subject and advised him.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Pin Oak Circle, suspicious incident - A complainant stated he was walking his dog and heard an alarm ringing at a residence nearby. Deputies checked the residence but were unable to locate the owners. Nothing appeared out of order.

Tuesday, Feb. 19

•Baseline Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated there was a suspicious person walking around the Grand Island Plaza. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any persons acting suspiciously.

Wednesday, Feb. 20

•Grand Island Boulevard, theft of services - An employee at a motel stated that a subject had not paid for his room for the last week. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 36-year-old man from Grand Island for theft of services (Class A misdemeanor). The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $250 bail.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - Employees of a pharmacy stated that a known person stole various items from the store. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 51-year-old woman from Grand Island for petit larceny (a class A misdemeanor). The woman was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Thursday, Feb. 21

•Grand Island Boulevard, criminal mischief - Employees at a doughnut shop stated that an unknown person drew graffiti on a mirror in the bathroom. Damage was listed as minor.

•Whitehaven Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that several youths were running around on the River Oaks Golf Course. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects. No damage was reported.

Friday, Feb. 22

•Baseline Road, animal loose - A complainant stated a dog was running loose in the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Fix Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Love Road, larceny - Employees at a gas station stated that a vehicle drove off without paying for gasoline.

•Timberlink Drive, chimney fire - Deputies assisted the Grand Island Fire Co. for a report of a chimney fire. Damage was listed as minimal. No injuries were reported.
