Educators from across the country to be honored on "LIVE"
Hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan have announced the return of "Top Teacher Week" to "LIVE with Kelly and Michael." Each day during the week of April 29 through May 3, "LIVE" will honor the nation's best educators for being outstanding mentors to their students in and out of the classroom, for making their schools better, and for going above and beyond to serve their communities.
Last year, Bryan Sawyer, from Karigon Elementary School in Clifton Park, was voted the overall 2012 top teacher by "LIVE's" viewers. Sawyer, a special education teacher, was nominated by the parent of two students, who described him as having a "vast understanding of the power of motivation and its importance in engaging children." Sawyer captured the hearts of the "LIVE" audience and took home a brand-new 2013 Ford Fusion, as well as a $25,000 check for Karigon Elementary School.
"LIVE's" viewers can nominate teachers from their communities as individuals or as groups, and must include the teacher's name, the name of the school where he or she works and, most importantly, what makes that teacher so unique and special. All teachers are eligible, from public or private schools, from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The deadline for submission is April 3. From the submission pool, 10 teachers will be selected as semi-finalists and announced during the week of April 8. Viewers will vote for their favorites, and the five teachers with the most votes will be showcased during the week of April 29. The educator chosen as the 2013 top teacher will be announced the week of May 6.
