The New York State Department of Health will hold a public meeting to discuss a health outcomes review for Tonawanda and surrounding areas in Erie County, including Grand Island.
The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Sheridan Parkside Community Center, 169 Sheridan Parkside Drive, Tonawanda. Representatives of the NYS DOH will make a short presentation, with comments and discussion to follow.
The review was conducted to address concerns about potential health effects from exposures to emissions from the area's industries and motor vehicle traffic.
The south end of the Island is included in a sub-area of the Tonawanda health outcomes study area. The report is online at http://www.health.ny.gov/environmental/investigations/tonawanda/docs/health_outcomes_pcd.pdf.
