Town of Niagara Police Blotter for Feb. 21, 2013

The following is a sampling of calls received by the Town of Niagara Police between Feb. 11 and 18. During that time period, patrols answered 169 calls.

Monday, Feb. 11

•2900 block of Birch Ave., landlord/tenant dispute. Landlord complained that evicted tenants did significant damage by leaving the water running. All floors were damaged and there was three feet of water in the basement, destroying the furnace and water heater. Rocks and pebbles were found in the bathroom drain.

•2500 block of Military Road, shoplifting. Patrols found a 36-year-old Buffalo man who had fled from a business after opening a pack of razor blades and damaged several computer hardware/software items.

Tuesday, Feb. 12

•7600 block of Dean Brown Drive, false alarm. Patrol dispatched to residence for a front door alarm. House and surroundings appeared secure.

•Military Road and Lockport Road, traffic tickets. Patrols issued six traffic tickets for various offenses, including using a cell phone while driving, suspended license, failure to wear a seatbelt, speeding, no insurance and reckless driving

Wednesday, Feb. 13

•4700 block of Tuscarora Road, suspicious persons. Complainant reported two males were banging on her door and screaming.

•3000 block of Duluth Street, suspicious package. Complainant reported a blue storage container with a black plastic garbage bag taped to the top had been left on the porch. After determining it was not explosive, patrol found it was a cat box filled with insulation for the cats.

•4500 block of Witmer Road, false alarm. Patrol responded for a front door alarm. New employees entered incorrect passcode.

•Hyde Park Boulevard, DWI. A 34-year-old Beech Avenue man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after he was observed failing to keep on the right side of the road and in the designated lane of traffic. He also was found to have a suspended driver's license for failure to pay child support and failure to pay fines in Brooklyn.

Thursday, Feb. 14

•700 block of Sunnyside Drive, check situation. Patrol was requested to check the welfare of an elderly male not answering his phone. All OK.

•Porter and Packard roads, Hyde Park Boulevard, Packard Road, Lockport Road, Tuscarora Road, Military Road and Bellreng Drive, traffic tickets. Patrols issued 14 traffic tickets for various offenses, including following too closely and rear-ending a bus carrying special needs students, no inspection, speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, use of a cell phone and after hours parking.

Friday, Feb. 15

•Wildwood Drive/Crestview Drive, area check. Due to recent vehicle break-ins, patrols are continuing checks in this area.

•3300 block of Wildwood Drive, larceny. Complainant reported a GPS system was taken from his unlocked truck overnight.

•1900 block of Military Road, shoplifting. A Massena woman was arrested after she was seen selecting a pair of Oakley sunglasses, valued at $110 and concealing the sunglasses in her sleeve.

Saturday, Feb. 16

•7600 block of Colonial Drive, assist citizen. Patrol assisted resident with carbon monoxide detector activation. It was determined the 2005 detector was defective.

•7700 block of Third Avenue, mental health call. Patrol responded to a call about a woman who was intoxicated and wanted to kill herself. The woman became very combative and patrol requested Rural Metro Ambulance to take her to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for an involuntary evaluation.

•3000 block of Petroleum Street, domestic. Caller requested that patrol speak to his two daughters about discipline, because he feared being arrested for physically punishing them. Patrol explained the guidelines on discipline.

Sunday, Feb. 17

•400 block of D Street and 700 block of Sunnyside Drive, noise complaint. Patrol responded twice to loud television complaints at the first address and three times for loud music complaints at the second address. On D Street, patrol found everything quiet on the first visit, but the television was noticeably loud on the second trip. At the Sunnyside Drive address, guests were dispersed and an appearance ticket for disorderly conduct was issued.

Monday, Feb. 18

•8100 and 9000 blocks of Military Road, traffic tickets. Woman driving recklessly and speeding (65 mph in a 35 mph zone and 62 to 65 mph in a 45 mph zone) with 7-year-old child in vehicle. Driver became hysterical and irrational, screaming at patrol that she would miss her plane and causing the child to become upset.

•9100 block of Lockport Road, 3000 block of Petroleum Street, 2100 block of Roberts Drive, 8800 block of Disney Court, EMS calls. Ambulance on location.

•3300 block of Hyde Park Boulevard, harassment. Patrol interviewed male who said he was receiving ongoing threats from members of a family to whom he owes $40 on a previous drug deal. Man decided he was going to move back to his mother's house in Wheatfield.
