Ray Billica has announced that he will seek re-election to the Town Board position of councilman he has held for the last three years.

Billica, pictured, said his decision was based on the fulfilling experience he has had working with the rest of the Town Board members, town residents, advisory board members, and employees in addressing the concerns of town residents. Believing he has made a significant contribution to the efficiency and effectiveness of the board during his tenure, Billica said he wants to continue to work for all Grand Islanders in making the Island "the best place to live, work, and play."

According to Billica, some of the significant items that have been addressed during his term have been:

•"The controversial discussion of locating additional cell towers in town. Through considerable public input, locations of least impact have been identified."

•"The town-wide reassessment project has been ongoing and is almost complete. Also a controversial subject, reassessment was necessary as it has been over 25 years since the last reassessment. When complete, property owners will be paying their fair share in taxes."

•A totally revamped town code was completed. This recodification effort was started before Billica took office three years ago. "It was a long and difficult process that required many hours of deliberation. Working with town advisory board comments, residents comments, and input from the attorneys, the Town Board changed various parts of the code, adding and subtracting parts to develop a code that should meet the needs of our town for many years," Billica said.

Billica said he feels he works well with everyone, listening to their concerns, and offering suggestions to find answers to questions. He can be contacted at [email protected], or at 716-864-9055.

He said he expects to continue the effectiveness he said he has shown so far in town service and that he hopes that Grand Island residents agree he will represent them well. Billica reiterated a campaign theme from his first run for office: "It's all about you, the residents of Grand Island. What can I do for you."
