Congratulations to the Niagara-Wheatfield boys varsity swimming and diving team on its third consecutive Niagara Frontier League Championship. Giving up only one loss in the past three seasons was not an easy task for these hard-working young men, but their determination paid off Friday night when they defeated the Lockport Lions for the league title.

The 200-medley relay team of Josh Miller, Dan Peltier, Joshua Pittman and Dominic Zendano holds the top spot in the league with a time of 1:46.48.

Miller also earned the No. 1 individual spot in the 200 I.M. with a time of 2:11.70; 100 backstroke time of 56.39 and 100 fly with a state qualifying time of 53.56. Junior Dan Peltier holds the No. 1 spot in the 100 breaststroke in the league with a time of 1:06.1.

To date, eight of the N-W varsity swimmers have Section 6 qualifying times this season, including Miller, who had an exceptional senior year, breaking the school record in the 100 butterfly the first meet of the year, and then breaking his own record six more times throughout the season. In addition to qualifying sectionals, he qualified for the NYSPHSAA championships in the butterfly with a time of 53.56. He will be traveling with a select few from Section 6 to compete in Webster in March.

The junior varsity swim team also had a great season this year, finishing second in the NFL with a record of 12 -2. Some of the Top JV swimmers include Andrew Canada, Matt Mixon and Nick Couch.
