Niagara-Wheatfield basketball: Raising awareness and fundsby jmaloni
The Niagara-Wheatfield Varsity and JV girls' basketball teams held a fundraiser basketball game on Jan. 25 to support the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. The girls sold donation cards, wristbands and collected donations and raised a total of $1,600.
To help spread Crohn's awareness, they were decked in purple jerseys with the CCFA logo, wore purple headbands and shoelaces.
The JV girls lost 49-42 in double overtime. Emma Falter and Lexi Gibson both scored 9 points for N-W. Bailey Stayner scored 24 points for Lew-Port.
The varsity girls won 65-54 behind Melissa Smith's 26 points and Rachel Pawlak's 18 points. Chelsea Raber scored 22 points for Lew-Port.
The N-W girls' basketball team would like to thank everyone for their support in making this event a success.
