EMS Niagara Conference provided training to first responders, volunteers

Niagara University hosted the first EMS Niagara Conference on Jan. 26. It provided advanced training to more than 80 emergency medical service professionals and volunteers.

Some of the presenters and participants included Dr. Lloyd Brown, chief of emergency medicine at Mount St. Mary's; Linda Stevens, clinical excellence coordinator/chest pain center coordinator at Mount St. Mary's; Dr. Benjamin Rueda, head of cardiology at Mount St. Mary's; and John Malinchock, conference coordinator and pre-hospital programs EMS coordinator, Niagara University, and vice chairman of Big Lakes REMSCO. Conference topics included:  EMS operations; respiratory therapy; chest pain and STEMI recognition, dos and don'ts of social media; ambulance operations; and pre-hospital care quality improvement.

The conference was sponsored by Niagara University, Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Big Lakes EMS.
