Benefit planned for Lewiston woman battling liver cancer

•A benefit is planned for Friday, Feb. 1, at Lewiston-Porter High School for Ronda Koban-Sortore, a 48-year-old Lewiston mother battling stage IV liver cancer.

The event, which will include basket auctions and a 50/50 raffle, is set for 5 to 9 p.m., and is sponsored by friends of the family and the school's Key Club.

In 2006, at the age of 42, just days after being diagnosed with breast cancer, Ronda underwent emergency surgery for a brain aneurysm. Following her brain surgery recovery, Ronda was able to undergo successful surgery and treatment for her breast cancer and return to full-time work. But the family learned in August 2011 that the cancer had spread to her liver.

Years of illness have taken emotional and financial tolls on Ronda and her husband, David, and their two children, Zack, 17, and Andrea, 12.

Ronda has touched many lives in the community through her generosity, compassion and friendship, and through her work with the Fireman's Credit Union, HSBC, Town of Lewiston Courts and Koban's Restaurant.

There is no admission charge to attend the event. Raffle tickets are $10 per sheet or $25 for three sheets. Three tickets also will be sold for $5 for a high-end raffle with prizes valued at more than $100.

Those interested in making a basket or monetary donation may call Anne Marie DiMino-Hepfer at 716-628-8018 or contact her at [email protected]. Check donations may be made to the Benefit for Ronda Koban-Sortore, c/o 525 Vanderbilt Ave., Niagara Falls, NY 14305.

Lewiston-Porter High School is located at 4061 Creek Road, Youngstown.
