Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Jan. 18, 2013

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 160 calls from Jan. 5 to 11. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to eight burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Jan. 5

•Ransom Road, snowmobile operation - A complainant stated that several snowmobiles were riding on school property. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the snowmobiles.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Staley Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Love Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Park Lane, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the homeowner and determine the call to be a mistake.

•Love Road, shots fired - A complainant stated she heard numerous shots coming from the wooded area. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the source.

•Laurie Lane, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that she heard her front door open and then her dogs began to bark. Deputies checked the residence and the surrounding area but did not observe anything suspicious.

Sunday, Jan. 6

•Greenway Road, larceny - A complainant stated that sometime in recent days a possible known individual stole various items of jewelry from her residence. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, customer trouble - An employee at a local business stated that he was having problems with a customer on the premise. Deputies spoke to both parties and advised them. The customer left without incident.

•Stony Point Road, shots fired - A complainant stated that he heard several shots coming from the wooded area behind his residence. Deputies checked but were unable to locate the source.

•Stony Point Road, hit-and-run accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. A vehicle had struck a parked car and then fled in an unknown direction. No injuries were reported.

•Baseline Road, accident injury - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. One of the drivers was transported to a local hospital with seemingly not life-threatening injuries.

Monday, Jan. 7

•Winter Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that her dogs began to bark as if someone was outside during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked the area and did not observe anything suspicious in nature.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male subject was stumbling down the roadway. Deputies located the subject and advised him.

•Oak Ridge Road, fraud - A complainant stated that an unknown person or persons made fraudulent charges on her credit card at an out-of-state Walmart.

•Amberwood Drive, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the homeowner and determine the call to be a misdial.

•South State Parkway, hit-and-run accident - Deputies responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on South State Parkway. The pedestrian had been sideswiped by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with seemingly not life-threatening injuries. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Ferry Road, parking violation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was parked in the roadway and obstructing traffic. Deputies located the owner of the vehicle and advised him to remove it from the roadway.

Tuesday, Jan. 8

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a closed business late at night. Deputies spoke to the owner of the vehicle, who was an employee that was closing up for the night.

•Love Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in a gas station parking lot late at night. Deputies located the vehicle, but no persons were seen in the area. No damage was observed to the building.

•Whitehaven Road, road obstruction - Deputies removed a tree that had blown in the roadway and was obstructing traffic.

•Blackmon Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone stole various items from his pickup truck. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Wednesday, Jan. 9

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - Employees at a supermarket state that a male subject entered the store and stole various meat products from the deli. The subject then entered a vehicle and fled the scene. A witness did get a plate number from the fleeing vehicle. Deputies' investigation led to the arrests of a 51-year-old man from Buffalo and a 48-year-old man from Grand Island. The two men were each charged with petit larceny (a class A misdemeanor) and issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Love Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that a dog was running loose in the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

•Whitehaven Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

Thursday, Jan. 10

•South State Parkway, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Stony Point Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, an unknown person stole a license plate from his vehicle.

•Staley Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated a vehicle was swerving in and out of lanes. Deputies located the vehicle and advised the driver.

•Baseline Road, hit-and-run accident - Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that had been struck sometime during the night by another vehicle that fled the scene. No injuries were reported.

•Buckhorn State Park, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•East River Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Towerwoods Drive, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was driving slowly through the area as children were boarding the school bus. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Oakridge Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•LaSalle Avenue, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Alt Boulevard, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

Friday, Jan. 11

•Fieldstone Drive, theft of services - An employee of a taxicab company stated that a subject went inside of his residence without paying his fare. Deputies located the subject, who agreed to pay the fare.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Baseline Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Gregory Place, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious incident - Employees at the Nike Base state that a suspicious vehicle pulled into the parking lot near the playground during the late evening hours. The vehicle left the premise prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle. No damage was observed on the property.

•Bedell Road, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated that a male subject was sleeping behind the wheel of his parked car. Deputies located the male and advised him.
