Cassie Oursler scored the 1,000th point of her Grand Island Vikings basketball career Jan. 4 in Niagara Falls.

The senior center scored on a hook shot (pictured) despite taking a hack on the arm. She went to the free throw line and converted the three-point play for point number 1,001 and a 38-35 Vikings lead with 6:42 left in the game. GI went on to beat the Wolverines 56-49.

Oursler was nine points shy of the mark heading into the game. She said she was less concerned with when or if she would reach the milestone Friday and more concerned about the outcome of the game itself.

"It was all about if we won," Oursler said after the game. "We just needed to win. And we pulled out a win, and I scored my 1,000th, so that was cool."

The Wolverines had taken a 30-29 lead in the third quarter, but Oursler's three-point play broke a 35-35 tie in the game and the Vikings took control of the contest and never trailed again.

"That's how we usually are. We feed off of each other," Oursler said. "If a good thing happens or a good play, it just carries on, so we must have picked up the momentum from that good play and getting the 1,000."

Oursler, who sat most of the first half in foul trouble, finished with 13 points, while frontcourt teammates Steph Knight (12 points) and Kassie Bennett (16 points) had big nights.
