The K-Kids (Kiwanis Kids) of West Street Elementary School is a group of 15 fifth-graders who are taking on the responsibility and leadership of running their club as they plan and participate in community/school service projects. The group is advised by counselor Lenore Palmeri and is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Niagara-Wheatfield.

On Oct. 25, the K-Kids hosted an inspiring program for the school on the Leader In Me program. The Leader In Me agenda, involving students, teachers, principal, and other school personnel, is based on "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People," a book by Stephen R. Covey.

The first community endeavor taken by the K-Kids was to assist with the Niagara Falls Firefighters Christmas Toy Fund. The kids raised $253, which was presented at the Dec. 1 telethon.
