From Dec. 12 through Jan. 1, various Niagara County police agencies participated in a nationwide holiday season DWI enforcement program by increasing patrol units specifically designated for DWI enforcement.

Twenty-eight people across Niagara County were arrested during this time frame for driving while intoxicated. These extra patrol units also had an additional 30 arrests, and issued approximately 750 traffic tickets.

Participating were the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, New York State Park Police, and the Niagara Falls, North Tonawanda, Lockport, Middleport, Lewiston, Town of Niagara, Youngstown and Barker police departments.

Future "crackdown" periods are already scheduled, with all agencies again being involved.
