WNYIL town meeting hosted by Mental Health PEER Connection

Mental Health PEER Connection, part of the Western New York Independent Living Inc. family of agencies, will host a town meeting on housing for people diagnosed with psychiatric disabilities. Topics will include: quality and availability of mental health housing; the application process; problems transitioning from homelessness to community housing; and an open discussion.

The meeting will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Buffalo office of WNYIL Inc., 3108 Main St., Buffalo (located behind Jim's Steak Out). For more information on this upcoming meeting, call 716-836-0822, ext. 170.

Western New York Independent Living Inc. offers services that include peer counseling for individuals with disabilities as well as their family members, financial benefits consultation, housing search assistance, home and building modification, independent living skills evaluation and instruction, mobility training, recreational peer support groups, a peer mentoring program, and individual and systems advocacy. Support services of transportation, instruction on employing personal care attendants, a volunteer reading list, and equipment on loan are available. Programs for consumers with disabilities include Medicaid service coordination, individual support services, and family support services transportation program.

Since 1982, the center's services have expanded and evolved in order to meet its goal of full partnership with people with disabilities in the community. WNYIL now offers programs in several areas of concern: individual services; programs for consumers with developmental disabilities; mental health services; support services; and community services.
