While the biggies were seen in New York City, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, even Lewiston, New Year's celebrations also included events in Wilson and Ransomville.

The Kid's New Year's Eve party at the Wilson Firehall was put on by the Wilson Lions Club, the Wilson Business Association, the Wilson Volunteer firemen and the Town of Wilson. The ball drop was done by Clark Rigging.

The firehall was filled with kids, big and small, laughing, dancing, singing and having a great time. The adults seemed to have more fun blowing bubbles than the kids did, but the kids chased balloons, blew noisemakers and finally got the grown-ups out on the dance floor with them.

At 9 p.m., everyone bundled up and went out to the parking lot for the first ball drop of the evening. The ball was dropped again at midnight for the adult crowd.

In nearby Ransomville a ball was dropped at 9 p.m. outside Johnston's Restaurant for the kids and again at midnight for a crowd of kids and adults. (photos by Wayne Peters)
