For the past 15 years the Grand Island High School DECA Club has sorted food for needy families on Grand Island during the holiday season. The distribution place originally was at the Stony Point Road firehall, until the generosity of the GI community forced the Neighbors Foundation to find a larger space, the Knights of Columbus.

Each year, the students take a day to organize, sort and distribute food to those who need it during the holiday season. Over the past few years, students from Interact and Student Council have assisted with the work load. This year, the junior DECA club of Veronica Connor Middle School joined in with Mary Jane Fonte, the new DECA adviser for the middle school.

All clubs involved are so proud to be a part of this event and thanked the members of the Grand Island Neighbors Foundation for their continued support of the Grand Island community.

According to Neighbors Foundation President Hank Kammerer, this year's holiday distribution went to 66 families. The job of separating the food into 66 batches fell to the many student volunteers from GIHS.
