Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Dec. 21, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 147 calls from Dec. 8 to 14. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 11 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Dec. 8

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Carter Creek Drive, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various Christmas decorations from her front yard.

•Fernwood Lane, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that she heard her dog barking in the yard and when she looked out the window she noticed her Christmas decorations had been knocked over. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects involved. No decorations were reported missing.

Sunday, Dec. 9

•Whitehaven Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Whitehaven Road, customer trouble - Deputies responded to a report of customer trouble at a hotel. Deputies assisted security on sight in removing several guests.

•West Park Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that he observed a known male subject slash the tires on his vehicle. Deputies were unable to locate the subject, and filed for an arrest warrant.

•Marilyn Drive, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the homeowners and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Ransom Road, all-terrain vehicle operation - A complainant stated that an ATV was racing around the area of the Connor Middle School on Ransom Road. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the ATV.

Monday, Dec. 10

•Carl Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone stole various medications from her.

•Colonial Drive East, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•West River Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the homeowners and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Alvin Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a pickup truck was driving recklessly. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Whitehaven Road, traffic control device - Deputies responded to a report of a traffic light that had become disabled. Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition was notified.

•Oakridge Drive, parking violation - A complainant stated that a large commercial vehicle was parked on the street. Deputies issued the vehicle a parking ticket.

Tuesday, Dec. 11

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located an unoccupied vehicle in a closed business parking lot. No subjects were located and all the businesses appeared to be in order.

•Grand Island Boulevard, customer trouble - Employees state that a customer entered a restricted area inside of a business. Deputies spoke to the customer, who left without incident.

•Whitehaven Road, parking violation - Deputies cited a vehicle that was parked in the fire lane at a hotel.

•Whitehaven Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Revere Road, trespass - A complainant stated that several youths were looking into residences with flashlights during the late evening hours. Deputies arrived on location and observed several subjects in the yards on Revere Road. The subjects immediately began to flee and a short foot-chase ensued. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of three juvenile offenders, who were charged with criminal trespass in the third degree (a class B misdemeanor) and obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree (a class A misdemeanor). The juvenile offenders were issued appearance tickets and released to the custody of their parents.

•Long Road, hit-and-run accident - A complainant stated that a vehicle struck his and then fled the scene. Sheriff's deputies and Grand Island Police officers were able to locate the vehicle and driver. The driver was issued a traffic ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Baseline Road, larceny - A complainant stated that his bicycle was stolen from the basement of his apartment complex.

Wednesday, Dec. 12

•Revere Road, parking violation - Deputies cited numerous vehicles parked in violation of the Grand Island winter parking ordinance.

•Carol Lane, parking violation - Deputies cited a vehicle parked in violation of the Grand Island winter parking ordinance.

•Baseline Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious-looking rental truck was driving around the neighborhood with its flashers on. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•West River Road, assist other police - Deputies assisted New York State Parks Police on a traffic stop.

•Ransom Road, suspicious person with vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle at a closed business on Ransom Road. The driver was advised and left without incident.

•Grand Island Boulevard, marijuana arrest - Following a traffic stop and subsequent investigation, deputies arrested a 22-year-old man from Grand Island for unlawful possession of marijuana and traffic infractions. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Thursday, Dec. 13

•Stony Point Road, parking violation - Deputies cited a vehicle parked in violation of the Grand Island winter parking ordinance.

•East River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Staley Road, animal loose - A complainant stated he found a dog running loose in the area. The dog control officer was notified.

•Colonial Drive West, animal loose - A complainant stated he found a dog running loose in the area. The complainant was able to contact the owner and return the dog.

•Love Road, hit-and-run accident - A complainant stated that his business fence was struck and damaged by an unknown vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that two men exited a vehicle and began to fistfight. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any vehicle involved or persons fighting.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

Friday, Dec. 14

•Baseline Road, accident injury - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident with injuries. Several subjects were treated on-scene for seemingly not life-threatening injuries.

•Grand Island Boulevard, burglary - Deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a business. Employees reported that they noticed the cash register was missing. Surveillance footage showed a black male subject entering the business and stealing the register before fleeing in an unknown direction. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
