The Hospice and Palliative Care Group Inc. President CEO John Lomeo recently announced the appointment of Kay Dekker, RN, BSN, as director of hospice services at Niagara Hospice.

"Kay's extensive strategic planning and executive management experience will drive improved performance for our organization that has experienced unprecedented growth in recent years," he said.

Lomeo also said that, in addition to Dekker's continuing education in corporate compliance, her leadership and managerial skills will lead Niagara Hospice to even more growth as the organization continues to navigate the ever-changing field of health care.

Dekker has held several executive administrative positions in health care. Her most recent position was regional director of operations and compliance administrator at The Hamister Group in Erie County. There, she was responsible for the overall operation of three assisted living facilities and the largest certified home health care agency in St. Lawrence County. Prior to that, she was chief operating officer at Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara in Niagara County where she provided residential oversight for 150 individuals and the provision of services to 800 individuals with developmental disabilities.

"I am thrilled and excited to become part of the Niagara Hospice family," Dekker said. "I was drawn to this opportunity based on several factors: the wonderful reputation Hospice has within the Niagara County community, the families that have received service and who speak so highly about the exceptional care they and their loved ones received, and the employees at Hospice that repeatedly indicated they loved their job and are treated like one of the family. I look forward to returning to Niagara County and effecting positive change to further improve hospice services as well as enhance customer and employee satisfaction."

Named in the 2012 Business First "Who's Who in Healthcare," Dekker is a Lockport native who graduated magna cum laude from Niagara University with a B.S. in nursing and a minor in business.

Niagara Hospice has provided end-of-life comfort, care and support since 1988 to more than 20,000 Niagara County individuals and families faced with terminal illness. No one is ever denied hospice care due to inability to pay. For more information, visit www.NiagaraHospice.org or call 716-439-4417.
