Mrkall re-elected to head fire company

Members of the Grand Island Fire Co. re-elected Chief Norman Mrkall on Dec. 6, for the upcoming 1973 year. Elections were held at the regular monthly meeting.

Parents disapprove changes in elementary school areas

A group of parents whose children will be affected by the elementary school area changes are up in arms about their children being sent to different schools. These changes will increase class sizes and possibly move children to different schools for the third or fourth time. A group of 40 parents met with Superintendent Robert C. Courtemanche to inform him of their concerns.

Courts may decide isle pipeline dispute

Empire State Pipeline is looking for Grand Island to sell them land for rights-of-way even though the company does not possess formal permission to build a proposed pipeline across the town. The Town Board Monday authorized Attorney David J. Seeger to begin Supreme Court and U.S. Court of Appeals proceedings to decide the issues.

Updates on high school, middle school facilities shared

At Monday night's Grand Island Central School District Board of Education meeting, Jack Weisenborn, director of special services, presented a slideshow that previewed the updates on the facilities. At this point the high school roof is 90 percent done and the new music suite is being built. At the middle school the restroom renovations will be completed by the end of February.
