Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Nov. 30, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 181 calls from Nov. 17 to 23. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island. Deputies responded to 14 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Nov. 17

•Love Road, marijuana possession - Deputies' investigation of a traffic stop led to the arrest of a juvenile offender for unlawful possession of marijuana. The juvenile offender was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Grand Island Boulevard, drunk driving - Following an investigation of a one-car motor vehicle accident, deputies arrested a 31-year-old man for driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. The man registered a .24 of 1 percent blood-alcohol content, three times the legal limit, after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. He was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, due to the elevated reading, and was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court. He was then released to the custody of a sober third party.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Orchard Road, criminal mischief - Several neighbors reporting damage to mailboxes that occurred sometime during the night.

•Stony Point Road, assault - Following a disturbance, deputies arrested a 20-year-old man for assault in the second degree (a class D felony), menacing in the second degree (a class A misdemeanor) and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree (a class A misdemeanor) after the man attacked a friend with a knife. He was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in the Town of Grand Island Court. The victim was treated at the scene by the Grand Island Fire Co. for a seemingly not life-threatening laceration.

•Grand Island Boulevard, shoplifting - Employees at a supermarket stated that an unknown male subject entered the store and stole various merchandise. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Enola Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was driving over lawns in the neighborhood. Deputies located the vehicle and issued the driver several traffic tickets.

Sunday, Nov. 18

•Broadway, injury accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident with injury. The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with seemingly not life-threatening injuries.

•Long Road, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle parked on the property of the Metz Building. The driver stated he stopped to make a phone call. He was advised and left without incident.

•Fix Road, warrant arrest - Deputies arrested a juvenile offender on a bench warrant from the Town of Grand Island Court. The juvenile offender was transported to the Erie County Holding Center.

•South State Parkway, drunk driving - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a juvenile offender for driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. The juvenile offender registered a .14 of 1 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

Monday, Nov. 19

•Beaver Island State Park, animal loose - A complainant stated that she found a loose dog in Beaver Island State Park. The dog control officer was notified.

•I-190, accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Havenwood Lane, parking violation - A complainant stated that a recreational vehicle was parked on the sidewalk. Deputies checked but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Tuesday, Nov. 20

•Fix Road, hunters - A complainant stated that several subjects were hunting in the area. Deputies located the hunters, who had permission from the landowner to hunt on the property.

•Staley Road, larceny - A complainant stated that someone stole driveway markers from his property sometime during the night.

•East Park Road, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle - Following an investigation of a property-damage-only accident, deputies arrested a juvenile offender for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in the third degree (a class A misdemeanor) and traffic infractions. The juvenile offender was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in the Town of Grand Island Court.

•I-190, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

Wednesday, Nov. 21

•Long Road, larceny - A complaint stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole a tire cover from her vehicle.

•Havenwood Lane, parking violation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was blocking the sidewalk. Deputies located the owner, who moved the vehicle without incident.

•Settlers Row, parking violation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was blocking the sidewalk. Deputies located the owner, who moved the vehicle without incident.

•Love Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent hours, someone stole various items from his unlocked vehicle.

Thursday, Nov. 22

•Grand Island Boulevard, burglary - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various items from his business. The subjects gained entry by smashing the front window of the business. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from an apartment in his complex. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the occupants.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call at a motel on Grand Island Boulevard. Deputies checked the premises but were unable to locate any subjects in need of police assistance.

Friday, Nov. 23

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that two subjects were laying in the grass just off the roadway. Deputies located the subjects and advised them.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in the rear of a business for about an hour. Deputies located the vehicle and advised the driver.

•Bedell Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone damaged the door to her apartment.
