Niagara Tourism & Convention Corp. promotions abroad bring attention to Niagara Wine Trail and more

American winemakers are always seeking the attention of French journalists. Niagara Tourism & Convention Corp. was able to create interest in the Niagara Wine Trail from Sipa, a general-interest French press agency, with just one conversation.

NTCC Director of Sales Elizabeth Davis met French journalist Marie-Dominique Bédouet in September at IFTM (International French Travel Market) Top Resa, the international travel trade event for the French outbound travel market. She attended as a partner to promote the NTCC's "Wine, Water and Wonders of Upstate New York" itinerary. Bédouet stopped by the booth to learn more about the suggested itinerary and gained information about Niagara USA and, specifically, the Niagara Wine Trail.

Bédouet visited family in Albany for Thanksgiving, so it made sense for her to travel to Niagara USA at this time. Davis will lead Bédouet on a tour of the Niagara Wine Trail and Niagara Falls State Park on Friday, Nov. 30.

"Marie-Dominique realized what many are coming to know about the Niagara Wine Trail. Its product rivals larger wine-producing regions that have existed much longer," Davis said. "Besides the Niagara Escarpment, only two other areas in the world make Ice Wine, which ranks the Niagara Wine Trail as even more of an asset to the world of wine."

Bédouet plans to write about Ice Wine and is looking forward to meeting winery owners and becoming knowledgeable about the process. Her itinerary includes stops at Schulze Vineyards & Winery, Niagara Landing and Freedom Run.

She will complete her trip to the U.S. with a visit to the Corning Museum of Glass, a partner in the "Wine, Water and Wonders of Upstate New York" itinerary.

The mission of the Niagara Tourism & Convention Corp. is to expand the economic prosperity of the Niagara USA communities by generating individual and group visitation.
