LaSalle calendar available

LaSalle Pride Inc. for the second year is selling a LaSalle Legacy Calendar, featuring historical photographs of the Village of LaSalle.

Once a part of the Town of Niagara, LaSalle became an official Village in 1897, and was annexed into the City of Niagara Falls in 1927.

The calendars can be purchased at the LaSalle Library, 8728 Buffalo Ave., Niagara Falls, on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. They are also available is the Local History Department located on the third floor of the Niagara Falls Public Library, 1425 Main St., Niagara Falls, on Tuesday and Thursdays from 2 to 5 p.m. and during the Winter Wonderland Festival on Dec. 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Proceeds from this year's calendar will be used for erecting Historical Markers in LaSalle.

This year's calendar photos include the International Paper Company Houses on 67th and 68th streets; Griffon Manor on 93rd to 96th streets; the original McDonald's restaurant on Niagara Falls Boulevard; cottages on Cayuga Island; Bacon Memorial Church on 59th Street; LaSalle Junior High School; Point Avenue Bridge and the old Trolley Depot; Basil Theater, LaSalle Sweet Shop; Loblaws; tourist cottages on Niagara Falls Boulevard and 56th Street; LaSalle Field Days on Cayuga Island in 1959; trolley line on Buffalo Avenue and 86th Street; and home construction in the 500 block of 73rd Street.

The formal kickoff of the 2013 calendar will be at the annual meeting of LaSalle Pride Inc., which will take place at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, in the second floor auditorium of the LaSalle Library.

Teresa Lasher Winslow, an authority on the history of the former Village of LaSalle, will present a power point presentation on LaSalle Schools as part of a series of lectures pertaining to the history and architecture of LaSalle. Present and former residents are encouraged to attend and bring photographs and other memorabilia, which can be scanned and returned to the owners.
