The Grand Island Town Board issued a proclamation at its Monday meeting calling on residents to support local businesses on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 24.
In making the proclamation, the board noted that Small Business Saturday, founded in 2010 by American Express, is meant "to help small businesses get more exposure during one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year." The board noted that for every $100 spent in independently-owned businesses, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures, and urged "all residents to support local businesses that day and repeatedly throughout the year."
On hand for the proclamation presentation were, from left, Susan Berger of Flower A Day, Bonnie Sciuk of Brite Ideas, Town Supervisor Mary Cooke, Kim Kalman from Isledegrande, and Reg Schopp of deSignet International.
